The firm’s origins date back to 1927, when the lawyer and Doctor of Law Jaime Enseñat Alemany (Palma de Mallorca, 1899–1989) established himself in Madrid. Over the following decades he carried out intense activity both in the practice of law and in economic and industrial development, promoting foreign investment in Spain, mainly from the Italian Republic. In this regard, he acted as legal adviser in the establishment and expansion in Spain of important Italian companies and industrial groups, such as Sniace S.A., of which he was one of the founding shareholders and a director.
This tradition was continued by his son Sebastián Enseñat Velasco (Palma de Mallorca, 1930–2009) and by the firm’s current senior partner, Joaquín Fernández-Escribano Calsina, who substantially intensified the firm’s activity, establishing it as a leading point of reference for the various Italian companies, both public and private, arriving in Spain.
The firm has thus excelled in legal advice on the incorporation and expansion of subsidiaries and branches, both for small and medium-sized enterprises and for major industrial groups in the energy, automotive, banking, pharmaceutical, agri-food, communications, audiovisual, publishing and transport sectors, among others.
In addition to the above, the firm has a long track record in advising institutions, foundations and associations, both Spanish and foreign, including various Embassies, Consulates and Chambers of Commerce. Indeed, the firm has actively participated in important charitable and humanitarian projects such as, among others, the “Global Polio Eradication Initiative” launched by Rotary International, of which Sebastián Enseñat Velasco was President for Spain. In recognition of this work, several members of the firm have received important decorations, including those of “Commendatore dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana”, “Grande ufficiale dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana” and “Ufficiale dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana”.
